Biography

Diversity – Bob is the epitome of this concept in our society today.  He is a Latino (first generation American) and an individual with a disability (legally blind).  During his professional career, he has lived and worked in Boston, New York, Kansas City, Denver, and San Diego.  He has been active in many areas of the community and can offer an insightful approach to many subject areas. 

Facilitator & Trainer – Bob facilitates workshops for organizations across the country.  From 2002 through 2007, The Job Seeking Skills Training workshops (offered to disabled job seekers) were the focus of his creative talents and abilities.  In 1994, he began offering seminars on Cultural Diversity covering race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, etc.  As an individual with a disability, he gives a unique perspective into Cultural Diversity and the ADA of 1990 for the community at large.  During his corporate career, he created and managed training departments in New York and Boston.  His primary focus was on sales and management training. 
He was trained as a facilitator by a consulting firm retained by his employer in 1982. 

Entrepreneur – Bob has started three, small businesses of his own so far.  In 1984, he founded Business Solutions (a management consulting firm).  He assists clients with organizational development, facilitation, training, business planning, management, marketing, and sales.  During the 1990’s, his business consulting practice focused on helping disabled individuals to start their own business via a state agency (DVR).  In the 1980’s, he started two other small businesses.  Engineering Solutions (distribution of PC software for scientific applications) 
Financial Solutions (LHD insurance & financial planning). 

Employment – Bob has experience across all sectors of the economy including startups, the Fortune 1000, the federal government, teaching college, nonprofits, etc. He was a fast track, corporate executive and held seven, increasingly responsible positions in nine years with three Fortune 1000 corporations. He left at the Director level even though his next position would have been Vice President. Stints in corporate headquarters in Boston and New York helped him to develop the expertise and experience to begin consulting and to become an entrepreneur. Prior to his corporate career, he gained exposure to the public sector while working as a Management Auditor (GS 9) for the US General Accounting Office (GAO).

Instructor – Bob taught at the Community College of Denver in the 1990’s. He offered courses in Business, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and Management primarily in a Hispanic Entrepreneurship Program on the Auraria Campus. From 2008 to 2013, he was a certified instructor for the American Heart Association CPR training. He taught BLS for medical professionals and HSFA for laymen.

Education – Bob is a firm believer in the concept of life-long learning. He has a Master of Science in Business Administration (MSBA) and a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA). Wichita State University (his alma mater) was a leading business school that was 1 of only 55 AACSB graduate schools of business in the US. He has continued his learning with courses from the University of Denver, University of Colorado, Community College of Denver, Regis University, Rivier College, and Daniel Webster College. He has taken business training courses from AT&T, the American Management Associations, Colorado Free University, Community Resource Center, Dun & Bradstreet Business Education Services, Tom Hopkins International, Orten & Hindman, Padgett-Thompson, Inc., Practical Management Associates, Inc., Rocky Mountain Resource & Training Institute, and Robert A. Sayles Associates, Inc.

Leadership – Bob honed his skills as a graduate of prestigious leadership development programs and applied those skills over the years in various arenas.  The 1994 - 95 Leadership Denver Program – founded in 1973 – class sponsors were US West, TCI, and TakeCare, The 1994 Class of the Colorado Institute for Leadership Training – founded in 1991 – sponsored by the Colorado Democratic Party, The 1993 Visiones VIII Class – founded in 1987 – sponsored by the Colorado Institute for Hispanic Education and Economic Development, The 1996 La Raza Male Youth Leadership Conference – Auraria Campus – workshop presentor – “Leadership for the 1990’s and Beyond”, The 1994 Student Leadership Conference – Auraria Campus – “The ADA: Whose rights are they?”  “Where do we go from here?”  – Founder & moderator

Civil Rights – Bob was a leader in the following grassroots movements. In 1996, he brought disabled community leaders together in order to pressure the Regional Transportation District (RTD) into providing access to all disabled citizens. He spearheaded an effort in 1996 within the Denver Police Department to ensure pedestrian safety for the disabled community, senior citizens, and children.  He participated in the Regional White House Conference on Aging in 1994 which was sponsored by the US Department of Health and Human Services.  He coordinated the media for a landmark federal lawsuit filed by eight individuals with disabilities, who sued the state of Colorado to gain access to the State Capitol in 1993.  In 1993, he served on a national task force created by the Commissioner of the Social Security Administration to redesign the disability claims process (SSDI).  He was the coordinator of the Legislative Action Group for Citizens with Disabilities (volunteer lobbyists) during the 1994 Colorado legislative session.  He was a founder of the Minority Issues Coalition, Inc. in Boulder in 1989.
